breakthrough CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

One of the biggest obstacles that children with disabilities face worldwide is being born in a developing nation.

80% of people with disabilities live in low-income countries with limited or no access to basic services such as rehab facilities or wheelchairs

Many children with disabilities in developing nations are ostracized by their communities, and in extreme cases, may spend most of their lives in a single room with little to no interaction with the outside world.

About 600 million people around the world live with disabilities of various types due to chronic diseases, injuries, violence, infectious diseases, malnutrition, and other causes closely related to poverty.

For the past few years Global Breakthrough has helped run several cerebral palsy therapy centers, beginning in North Africa. These centers build up teams of well-trained local therapists who work with the children and their families, teaching skills and techniques that guide them toward sustainable, fulfilling lives.
“It is amazing to watch these children who have often been neglected for so long receive the love and care they so desire. It’s not uncommon to hear that these children look forward to their time at the center as the highlight of their week” –Global Breakthrough team member
The work these centers have been doing has been so transforming in these communities that they have been dubbed “The Miracle Centers” by locals.
“Imagine an environment where these children can play with one another, something they do not get to do often, while their mothers talk about their shared hardships and trials.
Imagine children who could not walk now moving on their own two legs.
Imagine families witnessing unconditional love and support for their children whom many in their society see as being less than a real person.” -Global Breakthrough team member.
